Bats & Rabies - bats are known carriers of rabies and although a small part of their poulation at any one time may be rabid it is impossible to ever determine short of testing in a laboratory if a bat even was rabid. Bottom line. Never touch a bat unless wearing leather gloves . Never sleep in a room with bats known to be in the room. Bats can bite and leave very small wounds similar to a sliver wound. The rule of thumb is if you slept in a room with a bat go seek medical attention and bring the bat if necessary. If the bat tests negative you won't need to take  the series of rabies shots. No bat and you need to take the shots immediately since rabies takes over so quickly .
